Beware of Scams

Often times internet companies will say they are offering a free trial and all you have to do is pay shipping.

Some times they do not even ship the trial. Other times, if you do not read the fine print you find that shortly after the trial they automatically charge your credit card.

Herpes

What is Herpes?

Herpes is a viral sexually transmitted disease, or STD, which is transmitted through sexual contact between and infected person and a non-infected person. The term can also be used to describe any type of viral-related infection that causes small blisters to erupt anywhere on the skin. The common fever blister on the lips can be classified as a type of herpes, although it typically is not caused by sexual contact in the general public.

What Are the Different Types of Herpes?

There are two common forms of the herpes virus. The first is called HSV1, or type 1 herpes, which is also the most common form, and is found on the lips, face, or mouth. The other type, HSV2 or type 2 herpes, is the type which is associated with STD's, primarily because it causes infections in the genital areas. Newborns can also be exposed to HSV2 during the birthing process.

How is Herpes Contracted?

Herpes is contracted when a herpes blister comes into contact with fresh, unexposed skin. Essentially there must be direct contact between these two areas for the virus to spread. Transmission can occur from both an open and a closed blister. Both forms of the virus are contracted in this way.

When Do People Become Infected?

Most people will contract the HSV1 version of the herpes virus very early in life, usually from well-wishing family members who kiss them as young children. Herpes of both varieties can remain dormant in the body, becoming exacerbated due to conditions such as stress, illness, high body temperature, broken skin such as on the lips, and excessive exposure to the sun. HSV1 viruses are the cause of the common cold sore or fever blister, which explains why these eruptions mysteriously occur during illnesses. HSV2 viruses can also remain dormant in the body, which makes detection in an infected person virtually impossible unless there is an outbreak. The HSV2 variety creates blisters in the genital areas exclusively.

How is Herpes Treated?

Unfortunately, there is no cure for either version of the herpes virus. Herpes will remain with the person for the rest of their lives, making an appearance periodically. There are new medications which help to control outbreaks of the HSV2 version, however, it is still possible to spread herpes to sexual partners.

What Can Be Done to Prevent the Spread of Herpes?

The number one way to prevent the spread of herpes is to avoid contact with any areas which appear to be experiencing a herpes outbreak. Despite the urge to kiss your loved ones, newborn babies, children, grandchildren, etc., if you have blisters on your lips it is advised to refrain from doing so. In cases such as these, if you feel that you absolutely must kiss someone, do so on the cheek. Likewise, if you have contracted the HSV2 version, do not engage in sexual activity when you get, or you think you are getting, an outbreak. If you do not have herpes, always use safe sex practices to prevent contracting the disease.
