Beware of Scams

Often times internet companies will say they are offering a free trial and all you have to do is pay shipping.

Some times they do not even ship the trial. Other times, if you do not read the fine print you find that shortly after the trial they automatically charge your credit card.

Acyclovir

What is Acyclovir?

Acyclovir, which is also called by its trade names of Zovir or Zovirax, is a commonly prescribed guanine analogue antiviral drug. Its primary use is for infections caused by various viruses of the herpes family. It is most effective against type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) of the herpes simplex virus. It is also effective for treatment of the Varicella zoster virus, also known as shingles, the Epstein-Barr virus, and Cytomegalovirus. In recent medical research, scientists have also applied the medication to other types of infections in an effort to expand the drug's efficiency.

How Does Acyclovir Work?

The mechanism of action and pharmacology of Acyclovir is a complicated one consisting of numerous cellular actions, restructuring, inhibitions, and reactions. Generally speaking, Acyclovir prevents outbreaks of the herpes virus and reduces related symptoms. It cannot permanently cure herpes, as there is currently no treatment for the infection in this way. Herpes remains dormant in the body until it is exacerbated by factors such as fever, illness, stress, etc. During these times, herpes symptoms can be controlled through the use of Acyclovir, which helps to prevent the spread of the virus to others.

How is Acyclovir Administered?

Depending on the severity of the outbreak, the type of herpes to be treated, and the areas of concern, Acyclovir can be administered in a variety of ways. It comes in an ophthalmic ointment, intravenous injections, topical creams, and tablets in four different potencies. The ophthalmic ointment is used exclusively for a variety of herpes which infects the eyes, called herpes simplex keratitis, and is place directly onto the infected areas of the eye. Intravenous injections are utilized when the herpes infection is severe and when a high dosage of Acyclovir is necessary. Topical creams are primarily for use in the treatment of labial herpes simplex, or in other words, for genital areas. Tablets treat all forms of herpes within the body.

Are There Any Known Side Effects From the Use of Acyclovir?

Less than 1% of patients who receive Acyclovir treatments will experience any form of side effects. These side effects are mild and will subside after a short time, especially with therapeutic, regular treatments. Those who take the tablet version of Acyclovir may experience temporary headaches, diarrhea, vomiting, or nausea as the body becomes accustomed to the medication. In the rarest of cases, toxic epidermal necrolysis or anaphylaxis may occur. When Acyclovir is administered intravenously, a temporary, injection site redness or irritation may occur.

Where Can Acyclovir Be Obtained?

Acyclovir is available only through your primary care physician or other licensed doctor. It is a prescription medication which is administered when a positive diagnosis of herpes is rendered. It is not prescribed in oral or injectable forms to women who are pregnant or who may become pregnant due to potential risks to the unborn fetus.
